Report by Tim Janes:
The Wanderers made extremely hard work of a game that should have been wrapped up by half time - that's not taking anything away from a East London team that arrived at Fox Burrows Lane very up for this game.
East London were first to score, as a result of some poor defensive tackling from the home team which was apparent for most of the game! Mark Rawlinson summed the game up well: "We play for 5 mins and then let them play for 10 mins!". This is something that Writtle need to change if they are going to push for the Essex 1 title.
Positives are that the Wanderers never gave up, in parts the effort that has been put in at training is being reflected on the pitch but this needs to become more consistent. With new players and people playing out of position there is a lot of potential in this team and it will only be a matter of time before it all comes together.
Key points to mention - John Smillie's surging runs caused a lot of trouble and resulted in a try for him. Tim Janes charged down a conversion (with his forehead)! And we won! I think everyone involved knows that there is more to come from us and if we keep up the work we will get there.
